Chao Qi is an Associate Professor and Master’s Supervisor at the School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering, Beihang University (Beijing), and the International Research Center for Intelligent Systems and Humanoid Robotics at Beihang University Hangzhou Innovation Institute. He leads the Micro–Nano Flexible Systems Center. His team maintains close collaborations with Tokyo Institute of Science, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang University, Nanyang Technological University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shandong University, and several industrial partners.


His research interests focus on MEMS and flexible actuation/sensing systems, including:

(1) micro electromagnetic / piezoelectric transducers

(2) electronic skin for dexterous robotic hands

(3) intelligent lab-on-chip medical diagnostics

(4) intelligent frequency selective surfaces

(5) thin-film magnetic materials and micro linear/rotary motors


He has published over 25 journal and conference papers, has led projects funded by JST and NICT in Japan, as well as national overseas high-level talent programs, and holds multiple pending Japanese patents. He has received awards including the National First Prize of the “Challenge Cup”, Best Poster Award from the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering, and the Best Presentation Award from the Japan Society for Precision Engineering.
