Dr. Juan Guan obtained the Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Tianjin University in 2006, the Master's Degree in Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics from Fudan University in 2009, and the Doctoral Degree in Philosophy from University of Oxford in 2013. She joined Beihang University as a Zhuoyue Associate Professor in 2014, and has worked at the School of Materials Science and Engineering (Top 3 Materials Science and Engineering Major ranked by the Ministry of Education in 2017), and Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Biomedical Engineering since 2018.

She teaches undergraduate course Polymer Physics (a core-curriculum for MSE undergraduates and a Beijing City High-quality Course) and postgraduate course Biomacromolecules and Materials (bilingual).

Her research interests include natural silks, fibrous protein materials, fibre reinforced composites, with a focus on the structural/mechanical properties and an aim to design and fabricate better human-compatible medical structural materials. She has published ~40 peer reviewed papers, and the research on natural silk reinforced/toughened composites has attracted the attention of famous science media i.e. ScienceDaily and Eurek Alert.
