Multi-resolution Trajectory Optimization of eVTOL Aircraft Using Capacity Collocation

摘要:Electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft has advantages of cleaner, quieter, and more comfortable flight over its conventional counterpart, but suffers from lower endurance due to the limit of current battery technology. Efficient trajectory planning is thus required to extend the application scenarios. Hence, this paper proposes a “capacity collocation” scheme to improve the efficiency of trajectory optimization. First, the system dynamics is reformulated on the capacity domain, which transforms time-derivatives to capacity-derivatives. The reformulation yields a reduced-order optimal control problem solved by a multi-resolution direct collocation method. The non-uniform discretization grid nodes are selected according to a density function based on the discharging curve of lithium-ion batteries. The efficacy of the proposed method is verified by comparison with the collocation method, which demonstrates that the proposed method is advantageous in terms of accuracy and efficiency.
