Ph.D., Professor at Beihang University, Adjunct Professor at the Sustainable Photonics Research Center, Hangzhou International Innovation Institute, Beihang University, National-Level Young Talent.
Professor Hao Wang received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the School of Physics at Harbin Institute of Technology, China. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting Ph.D. researcher in the School of Engineering (Microengineering) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, under the supervision of Prof. Olivier J. F. Martin. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), working with Prof. Joel K. W. Yang, and was later promoted to Senior Research Fellow.
His research focuses on nanophotonics, particularly the design, fabrication, and applications of photonic devices for spectral and color modulation, intelligent imaging and perception. His work integrates advanced optical manufacturing, light-field manipulation, and multidimensional optical detection, encompassing the following areas:
Advanced Micro/Nanofabrication: Additive manufacturing through two-photon polymerization (TPP)-based 3D/4D micro/nanoprinting and nanostructure fabrication using electron-beam lithography.
Metasurfaces and Intelligent Photonics: AI-assisted design of micro/nanophotonic structures for advanced light-field manipulation and perception, including metasurfaces, metalenses, and AI-enhanced imaging systems.
Spectral and Color Photonics: Design and applications of nanophotonic structures for spectral engineering, including structural color metasurfaces, color vision technologies, and radiative cooling.
Diffractive and Computational Optics: Design and development of diffractive optical elements (DOEs), optical holography, structured light, and computational photonic devices.
Low-Dimensional Materials and Enhanced Optoelectronics: Nanophotonic enhancement of the optoelectronic properties of low-dimensional materials, including two-dimensional materials, quantum dots, and upconversion luminescent materials.
He has published over 60 SCI-indexed journal papers in leading international journals, including Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Electronics, Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering, Nature Communications, Science Advances, and journals published by Wiley and the American Chemical Society (ACS). Several of the publications have been featured as journal covers or research highlights. His research has also attracted international media attention, with coverage by Phys.org, ScienceDaily, and Channel NewsAsia (CNA). He serves as a reviewer for numerous journals published by Nature, AAAS, Wiley, ACS, and Elsevier. He is a Young Editorial Board Member of Nano-Micro Letters, PhotoniX, Materials Futures, Frontiers of Physics, Chinese Optics Letters, iOptics, and Opto-Electronic Advances. He also serves on the editorial boards of Nanomachines and Photonics, and has served as a Guest Editor for Nanomaterials and Polymers. In addition, he is a member of the IEEE Photonics Society's Nanophotonics, Plasmonics and Metamaterials Technical Committee. He serves as an expert reviewer for the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center, the Science and Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Education, and the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park. He is also a mentor in the Light Star Mentorship Program. His academic honors include the IEEE OGC Young Scientist Award, the PIERS Young Scientist Award, and the Outstanding Young Scholar Award at the National Metamaterials Conference of China.
Prof. Wang has served as Principal Investigator (PI) for research grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), including the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) and the General Program. He has also led or participated in multiple research projects supported by Singapore's national research funding agencies, the Singapore–Israel Joint Research Program, and industrial R&D collaborations with international companies, including THALES (France) and Lite-On.
During his research career overseas, he supervised or co-supervised more than 10 undergraduate students, Ph.D. candidates, and visiting researchers from countries including the United States, Denmark, Japan, Singapore, and China. Several of his former students and collaborators have secured academic positions internationally, been selected to participate in the Global Young Scientists Summit, received Best Presentation or Best Paper Awards at international conferences, or been awarded the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad. His research group maintains active academic collaborations with leading universities and research institutions across the United States, Europe, Switzerland, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan, fostering international research partnerships, interdisciplinary innovation, and academic exchange.
