Abstract:Recent developments of CO2 capture and subse quent catalytic hydrogenation toC1products are discussed and evaluatedinthisPerspective. Suchprocessescanbecomeacrucial part of amore sustainable energy economy in the future. The individual stepsof thiscatalyticcarboncaptureandusage(CCU) approach alsoprovide thebasis for chemical hydrogenbatteries. Here, specifically the reversibleCO2/formicacid(orbicarbonate/ formate salts) systemis presented, and the utilized catalysts are discussed.
