Here, we used 2D materials as an example. Through atomic structures engineering via defects, alloying, interfaces of heterostructures and intercalations, the phase, electrical, optical and catalytical properties could be tuned effectively and controllably. We focused on advanced nanomaterials for some specific applications such as electronics (atomically thin transistors, flexible sensors and 2D integrated circuits), clean energy (lithium battery and fuel cell) and catalysis.
