Luiz Pereira is an Associate Professor at the International Research Center for Space Environment and Planetary Science (GEOLAB) at Beihang University (Hangzhou). He works on high-temperature materials with emphasis on lunar regolith melting, sintering behaviour, and in-situ resource utilisation (ISRU). His research covers glasses and melts, rheology, magma and bubble dynamics, and advanced materials characterization. He received his PhD in 2020 from MINES ParisTech – PSL University (France), where he studied bubble dynamics in molten silicate glasses. This work earned the Pierre Lafitte Prize and the ENEN PhD Award, supported by the European Nuclear Education Network and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission. He later conducted postdoctoral research at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München (Germany) and, between 2022 and 2025, held an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship. He has published around 25 papers in international journals (10 as first author), serves on two technical committees of the International Commission on Glass (ICG), and has delivered nine invited talks at international conferences and workshops, including events of the American Ceramic Society and the International Commission on Glass. He also contributes to the organisation of international scientific meetings. In 2025, he received an Honourable Mention from the City Hall of Sete Lagoas and a Recognition of Merit from the Municipal Council of Sete Lagoas, his hometown in Brazil.
