个人简介

Dr. Faisal Mumtaz is a researcher in Environmental Monitoring at Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (RCSSTEAP), affiliated to United Nations. He received his PhD in Cartography and GIS from the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (AIR-CAS). Dr. Mumtaz serves as Project Coordinator for Asia-Oceania ecosystem monitoring initiative under China’s National Key Research and Development Program, and he holds coordination and leadership roles in international Earth observation cooperations, including AOGEO and GEO.

His research focuses on vegetation remote sensing and geospatial analytics for Earth system and human–environment studies. He integrates multiple data streams, including ground observations, reanalysis products, and remote-sensing datasets, to quantify and interpret vegetation dynamics and phenology, ecosystem quality, urban thermal environmental effects, and human settlement change. His broader work spans spatiotemporal analysis and scenario-based modeling of land-use and land-cover transitions, biomass- and carbon-related processes, and environmental change attribution, with an emphasis on interacting drivers such as urbanization, agricultural expansion, and climate variability.

Dr. Mumtaz has published more than 70 SCI-indexed papers in well-regarded international journals and has completed over 300 peer reviews for a wide range of SCI journals. He contributes extensively to scholarly publishing and editorial service as an Associate Editor for npj Heritage Science, npj Thermal Science and Engineering, and Frontiers in Sustainable Cities, and as an Editorial Board Member for Discover Sustainability, Discover Cities, Discover Forests, and Scientific Reports. He also serves in editorial and reviewer roles for leading publishers, including Elsevier and Springer Nature.
